Month 1: Self-Care
Month 1 Self-Care: Love Yourself Where You Are
This month, your self-care mission is about learning to love yourself right where you are today.
When I first started my journey, I didn’t believe the compliments people gave me.
“Mel, you are beautiful.”
“You’re amazing.”
“You’re brilliant.”
But instead of dismissing them, I wrote them down. Then I turned them into “I am” statements:
I am beautiful
I am amazing
I am super smart
I am brilliant
👉 Here’s a peek at my actual list — the one I kept and still have to this day:
I kept this list in my journal and I read these words every single day. At first, it felt awkward — even untrue.
But here’s the thing: your mind believes what you tell it to believe. The more I read those “I am” statements, the more my mind began to accept them. And once my mind started to believe it, my actions started to reflect it. That’s when everything began to change.
I began carrying myself differently. I made better choices. I showed up with more confidence. And little by little, those words became my reality.
→ I started with the words on the left side of my list, things people had actually said to me. Then, as time progressed, I added the words on the right side — qualities I wanted to embody, even though no one had ever spoken them to me..
***Wanna hear the CRAZY part? One of the very first things Rick ever said to me was “You are so elegant”. I was floored! It was right there on my list but no one had ever said it out loud to me before. I didn’t see myself that way — but I wanted to. And eventually, it became my reality.***
THIS WORKS!!!
Here’s what I’ve learned: You become what you believe you are! The words you choose to repeat to yourself shape the identity you step into. When you start believing “I am strong, I am confident, I am beautiful, I am worthy,” your actions naturally begin to align with that belief — showing up for workouts, making healthier food choices, and caring for yourself with intention.
And before long, it’s not just words on a page… it’s your reality.
This month, I want you to start building that same mindset shift for yourself.
Your Tactical Orders
Write down compliments you’ve received. Even if you don’t fully believe them yet, write them anyway.
Turn them into “I am” statements. Example: if someone says “You’re strong,” write “I am strong.”
Repeat your “I am” statements daily. Out loud if you can. Whisper them if you must.
Affirmation of the Week: I am beautiful.
Quote of the Week: “You are allowed to be both a masterpiece and a work in progress at the same time.” – Sophia Bush
